HISTORY

Haras du Lieu Marmion is the latest chapter in the history of a breeding operation based in England,

Greece and now France, that has produced many winners in the last decades.

The stud’s foundation mares include the famous STILVI, bought at Tattersalls by George Cambanis,

father of one of the present owners, and trained by Bruce Hobbs,

a top-class racehorse who produced three Group I winners, TACHYPOUS,

Champion 2-year-old TROMOS, and Irish Derby winner TYRNAVOS,

as well as TOLMI, who won the Coronation at Royal Ascot.

Among her descendants are the Henry Cecil trained PYTHIOS, winner of the Britannia Stakes at Ascot,

Oak Tree winner SELFISH, EPAGRIS, and the Luca Cumani trained Greek sprinter IALYSOS.

The Stilvi line is represented today by the mares GRANADILLA, AKTORIA, ARANKA, OMEHIA and KLEO. GRANADILLA has produced black type animals such as AKTORIA, GALAKTEA, NOW WE ARE TALKING,

along with useful performers including SAPFO.

Our second foundation mare is LOXANDRA.

She produced Group winners IRIDANOS, LOXIAS, KRATAIOS, KAVAFI

and KELTOS (winner of the Lockinge Stakes), all trained by Carlos Lafon Parias.

This line is at present represented on the stud by VIVACITY, SPILIADA and INNEVERA.

Another line comes via AKHLA, producer of group winners, DELFOS and BALIUS,

who is represented by two young mares, CHANT DE SABLE and GLAFYRA.

On the stud there is also LIGHT QUEST, who produced SKIA and Singapore Cup winner TROPAIOS

 and her two daughters  AMARYSIA and SYRNA;  AKRIVI, dam of GRECIAN LIGHT and IVIRKA;

and PEARL EARINNE, dam of TOPAZE BLANCHE, and PALE PEARL, who is also at the stud.

Our aim is to nurture those families, but also to bring in new blood and

constantly try to improve the quality of our product via the purchase of yearling fillies.
